Anthony Burton
Anthony Burton is a professional writer and broadcaster, who has been writing about the countryside and walking for over forty years. He is the author of several books of walks covering all regions of the country, from Orkney down to Cornwall. He has also written guides to ten long distance walks, including the official guides to three National Trails – The Cotswold Way, The Ridgeway and Hadrian’s Wall Path. Apart from walking, books he also writes about the history of technology and transport, with a special interest in canals: his first book in the genre, “The Canal Builders” is now in its 5th edition and his account of a thousand-mile canal trip “Around Britain by Canal” has just been reprinted in a new edition. He lives in Gloucestershire and is a founder member and former chairman of the Stroudwater Textile Trust, which preserves and demonstrates old machinery of the local woollen industry. He has worked on a hundred TV documentaries over the years, half of them as writer/presenter and others as historical adviser. He is an enthusiastic supporter of traditional pubs and good beer.
