The Lake District home of the great poet William Wordsworth has just arrived on the housing market. Set on five acres, Rydal Mount and Gardens in Ambleside was Wordsworth's main residence for most of his life, from 1813 until his death in 1850.

Dating back to the 16th century, Rydal Mount is a Grade I-listed home, with Grade II-listed outbuildings. As well as the main house, there is also guest accommodation, which is currently used as a two-bedroom holiday let.

Rydal Mount boasts views over Lake Windermere and Rydal Water, supposedly the only home in the area to have views of both.

The main house has seven bedrooms, four reception rooms and three bathrooms, with a drawing room at the centre of the home.

The gardens were designed by William Wordsworth himself.

The property is currently on the market for £2.5 million, with the estate agent Ashdown Jones.

The house is currently run as a business, so there is a tearoom and other customer amenities. The house could therefore be used as a family home or continued with its current public-facing usage, welcoming visitors and hosting weddings and other events.
