With an extreme cold warning coming to the UK, it's going to be difficult to find the motivation to venture outside and exercise. While the sofa, a boxset and a blanket is a tempting combo, once you get out running you'll feel better than anything else – and we've found a Reddit hack to make that jog easier.
We lose 7-10% of our body heat from the head, so protecting it from the cold when out on a run will make running more pleasant (not forgetting the psychological benefit of wearing a toasty hat).
However, we can't be the only one that finds a hat can sometimes lead to your head getting too hot. So where's the middle ground? According to Reddit, the TrailHeads Fleece Ponytail Hat is the ideal winter running hat.

Trailheads makes a fleece hat with a brim and earflaps that can flip up if you don't need them, and I use it every winter. It also has a slit in the back if you have a ponytail!

The hat has an overall 4.6 stars on Amazon, with over 4,000 five-star ratings. It comes in seven chic colours, and you can buy two packs for under £60 (a smart gift for a fellow runner mate). Reviews mention how it keeps the ears warm leading to less body heat being lost, as well as the brim keeping rain, snow and sun out of the eyes. One reviewer says:
This cap is the reason that I run in the winter! Warm but not suffocating (like beanies). The sides come down over the ears and the back of the neck but you can put them up if not needed. I wash it with soapy water as I shower post-run. Dries very fast. Most importantly, it does NOT move at all as I run. Not even a little bit.
