Fans of physical endurance events will be familiar with the Tough Mudder brand. It's the obstacle race and mud run that forces contestants over huge cargo nets, into icy plunge pools and through areas of live electric wires giving out shocks of 10,000 volts.

The 10-mile version of the event can take a gruelling four hours to complete. But the World's Toughest Mudder, never before held in Europe, is going to push entrants to a new level: it's a 24-hour challenge.

What is World’s Toughest Mudder?

The UK will be the first country in Europe to host the World’s Toughest Mudder – previously only held in the US.

It ups the ante of the original Tough Mudder races, which are over fixed distances. In this event, participants will run continuous loops of a brutal course for 24 hours.

The course will include favourite obstacles from original Tough Mudder events, plus new ones that will test your mettle.

Original obstacles include:

• Electroshock Therapy: a frame of dangling wires giving out 10,000 volts that participants must run through
• Kiss of Mud: crawl through a 14-inch gap over mud and under barbed wire
• Cage Crawl: pull yourself through a pit of water with just a 4in space to get air
• Pyramid Scheme: climb over a huge wall slick with mud and grease

You can enter as either an individual or as part of a team. Whoever completes the most laps in each category walks away with a handsome cash prize.

This large-scale event will also feature a dedicated 'village' with campsite, food trucks, music, event announcers and race centre – all designed to keep participants going for the 24 hours of intense physical demand.

Matthew Brooke, managing director of Tough Mudder, said: “World’s Toughest Mudder is not just tough, it’s a relentless assault on the senses over a gruelling 24 hours that will test participants to the limit.

Having seen how spectacular this event has been worldwide, we are delighted to be bringing it to the UK and answer the demand from our loyal mudders. The stage is set. The stakes have never been higher. It’s the biggest Tough Mudder event to land on UK shores."
