The combination of hot, sweet, sticky prunes spiked with mustard and wrapped with crisp salty bacon is amazing. Here's an easy recipe for these roast dinner sidekicks

Ingredients

  • Rashers of streaky bacon, smoked or unsmoked and rinds removed
  • Dried prunes, stones removed
  • Grainy mustard

Method

  • Step 1

    Preheat the grill.

  • Step 2

Slather each slice of bacon with about one teaspoon of grainy mustard and wrap the bacon around a prune. Secure each bacon-wrapped prune with a toothpick.

  • Step 3

Place the bacon-wrapped prunes in an even layer on a baking tray. Try to tuck any protruding bits of toothpick under the next bacon-wrapped prune to prevent it from catching under the grill.

  • Step 4

Cook under a hot grill, turning once, until the bacon is crisp. Serve immediately.

Serve these as sidekicks to roasted meat, on their own with some buttered brown toast and watercress, or even at a party as boisterous little canapés.
