Ingredients

  • 175g Dark muscovado sugar
  • 100g Butter
  • 3tsp Ground ginger
  • 1tsp Ground cinnamon
  • 350g Plain flour
  • 1tsp Bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 Egg
  • 85g Golden syrup

Method

  • Step 1

Cream the sugar, golden syrup and butter together. Mix the spices and flour in a separate bowl. Dissolve the bicarbonate of soda in 1 tsp of cold water. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients, add the melted sugar mix, egg and bicarbonate of soda. Mix well and put in the fridge for one hour.

  • Step 2

Heat the oven to 190ºC or 170ºC for fan ovens. Thinly roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut into shapes with Christmas cutters, making a small hole in the top of each biscuit with a skewer.

  • Step 3

Bake for 12-15 minutes, leave to cool and then string with ribbon. You can ice and decorate them if you’d like. Melted dark chocolate drizzled on top tasty delicious!
