Le Chameau Vierzonord Neo Wellington Boots Review

Our review: Considered the crème de la crème of the welly world, Le Chameau’s insulated welly is a durable, grippy choice

Le Chameau’s reputation precedes the arrival of these boots – this French brand has been loved by country types ever they first started hand-crafting rubber boots in the 1960s. Le Chamaeu boast that their creations are ‘the only rubber boots to be handmade by a single master bootmaker, so each pair is unique’. The best-selling Vierzonord boot is Le Chameau’s classic design with a neoprene lining for added warmth – the Vierzon is their non-insulated summer version.

First impressions

These eye-catching grass-green boots have a solid, chunky look at first glance but aren’t actually too heavy at 995g per boot. You only have to handle the Vierzonords to know they’re clearly very well-made, with tough seams and a thick rubber construction that is solid but still flexible, and a soft neoprene lining.

Fit

We found the Le Chameau Vierzonord too small a fit (our tester tried a UK6 women’s boot) and would recommend picking a size up if you plan to wear these boots with thick winter socks. Once we tested out a larger size, these boots proved very comfortable, and there’s enough room to suit wider feet. The cut on the calves is slim (sizing up helps with this too) but there is some adjustability thanks to a strap that stays put once adjusted. The Vierzonord also offered the best arch support of any boot on test.

Are they grippy?

The Vierzonord boots are pleasingly grippy on varied terrain – they’ll happily go anywhere from country walks to hillside stomps and mucky farmyards.

Are they good value?

These boots are pricy, and you’re paying for a premium brand – but we do think you get a premium product that should last long enough to be worth your investment.

Suitable for...

There’s lots to like about this smart boot – it’s comfortable and flexible (once you get the sizing right), thick neoprene provides instant warmth and the Vierzonords feel durable and should last you for years. Great grip makes them versatile enough to wear anywhere you roam.
