Mallydams Wood, an RSPCA wildlife hospital in East Sussex has shared the incredible moment a seal pup is released back into the wild after successful rehabilitation.
The seal, called Mousetrap, was admitted to the centre in September with a heavy lungworm burden in September and multiple wounds across his body.
The Mallydams team shared a heartwarming video on Instagram that captured the moment Mousetrap regained his freedom as he was returned to the wild.
"Watching a seal pup you’ve nurtured back to health take its first splash of freedom is pure magic,” says Peter Smith, Mallydams Wood Centre Manager.
"It’s a mix of pride, relief and awe as they dive into the waves, ready to embrace the life they were meant for. Knowing you’ve given them a second chance is the most rewarding feeling in the world.”
If you’ve seen a seal and are worried that it might need help, the RSPCA advises watching from a distance before calling for help. Never approach a wild seal as they can be dangerous.
