Running may be the most accessible sport in the world, but how can you keep momentum going as you build up your skill and athleticism? It’s useful and, most importantly, fun to have goals and events to mark points in your fitness journey - and that’s where the hugely accessible Parkrun comes in.
Review your 5K training plan here
Parkruns are free 5K running events that can take place weekly in local parks or outdoor spaces near you. All you need to do is sign up on the official Parkrun website, and be ready to run at 9am on Saturday mornings.
BBC Countryfile Magazine's Affiliate Development Manager Nancy-May Hingston, a Parkrun regular, had this to say about the event:
"Parkrun is great for those looking to meet new people, explore different places and experience participating in a relaxed event. Committing to something like Parkrun has dragged me out of bed on those dark and grey mornings, as you never regret a workout!"
The sense of community is one of the highlights of parkruns, running with people of all abilities and ages... and dogs!
Although signing up for a Parkrun is the easy part, training and shopping for the right equipment for it becomes a little more complex.
